Getting the brain working.

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 12:37 PM
Going swimming.
So I managed to get the book read for my tutorial yesterday and thought instead of putting the essay together next week I may as well get on with it straight away. All I can say is thank God it's done and I can chill out for another couple of weeks. (Where I'm sure the mad cramming will once again begin.) This assignment was all about "Globalisation" and the impact it has on society. I struggled last night with the tutorial because I didn't really agree with what my tutor felt was right, I'm hoping that won't affect my mark and that I've missed the point completely!!

On another point if you want to tone up I think badminton is definitely the way to go - my bum has caused me agony ever since!! Quite embarrassing really.......

I watched a programme last night "John Barrowman - the making of me." it's a new series and tries to find out the reasons of why we are who we are. His focus was on why he was gay (Next week looks at athletes.) and he went through a series of tests to find out if it was something that he was in built in him or some sort of nurture factor. I have to admit I actually found the programme quite depressing, not really understanding how in this day and age people still see it as a lifestyle that someone chooses and believe that it can be "knocked out of them."

It made me think of a statement by one of Northern Ireland's MP's a couple of weeks ago, Iris Robinson, it was incredibly offensive to gay people and to be honest I can't even begin to describe what was said as I found it so shocking. Working in the sector that I do, trying to change people's attitudes since the troubles is something that many groups focus on and I can't help but wonder how it's meant to be done with people at the top being allowed to behave in such a decriminating way. The whole framework over here is very different and the more I learn about it the more I realise just how many more changes need to be made before this country as a whole can move forward. I'm certainly not against religion but the focus of that here and using it as an excuse leaves so much hate towards people who do not feel the same as they do. If you live in the UK click on the link below if you have heard about her statement and don't agree with her views. (I don't know how much it changes things, but it made me feel slightly better.)

That sounds like a really interesting show--it makes me upset as well that people still think that way...
